Spotlight: Joey Mason aka DJ Slinky
21st January 2010
Ex-SAE student Joey Mason, aka DJ Slinky, has been bringing his thumping style of breakbeats to the dance floors of Byron Bay, building up a reputation over the years as one of the region’s most respected DJs.
After finishing his studies as part of the first intake of Audio students from SAE Byron Bay, Slinky spent time overseas playing at some of the world’s coolest clubs and festivals. He has now returned home to the North Coast of NSW, and a much sought after residency at Byron Bay’s Liquid Nightclub
Slinky has supported almost everybody who’s anybody in he breakbeat realm including General MIDI, Drummatic Twins, Tayo, FreQnasty and Krafty Kuts, and counts playing at GLADE Festival (UK), Big Day Out, SummerfieldDayze and Splendour in the Grass, as some of the highlights of his career so far.
Carving his way to the forefront of the Australian breakbeat scene by organizing, and playing at renowned beach parties along the Far North Coast, Slinky is continuing to put some of the skills he acquired at SAE into practice, and is choosing to focus more and more on remixing, and the production aspects of music. We look forward to seeing his career bloom as a producer, and will keep an ear out for his beats as they dominate the dance floors of the Byron Shire!
